Enjoy a full day of cycling on Lopez Island on Thursday, August 27, 2026. This is a ride for those who like to stop and explore and are not in a rush to get back home. We're taking the ferry scheduled to leave at 9:35 from Anacortes. You should be in line with your ticket by 9:15 am. We'll return home on the ferry that leaves Lopez at 6:20 pm and arrives back in Anacortes at 7:00 pm. The full route with all stops is about 36 miles and 2000 feet of climbing. We hope to start the day by exploring the beach at Spencer Spit State Park (there will be a short walk involved) and then take the scenic backroads to the south end of the island for a picnic lunch at Agate Beach Park. Bring your own lunch and snacks as food options are limited. You may be able to pick up some food at the south end store (not sure if they have sandwiches). Then we'll zig zag across the island with an optional stop at the scenic Otis Perkins Park & Spit before cycling over to explore the village Lopez. There are not many open restaurants there, but there is a pizza food truck that we can check out. On the 30 minute ride back to the ferry, we can make one of my favorite stops at Odlin Park and soak our feet in the water before catching our ferry for home. It's a social ride pace of 12 to 15 mph (much less going up the hills!) with stops for interesting things and to regroup. I do not have an ebike, so hills will take me a bit longer than the ebike crowd. If you miss a turn, I'm not going to chase you down, so be prepared to figure it out on your own. (There are several easy to miss left turns on fast downhills). I will have a sign up sheet and a few maps if you are unable to sign up online.
